From Frequently Asked Questions

Not much is yet known about the skills while the game is still in development but, the FAQ does contain the following comments;

How does the skills and skill training work?

The skill system will include different combat skills including "Close Combat", "Strength", "Agility" and "Marksmanship" which will affect the outcome of the close and long range attacks. You can improve your skills by both training and earning XP.
How does the skills and skill training work?

"The skill system so far is pretty simple. Each skill has a skill level, starting at 10 and there is no upper bound. Examples of skills could be:

Marksmanship Skill: 25 Agility: 21 Close Combat Skill : 20 Strength: 20 Technical: 30

When making a skill test, it is the difference between the characters skill level and the difficulty level of what she is attempting that determines the chance of success. In combat for instance, the attackers Marksmanship skill will be compared to the defenders Agility skill or Close Combat skill vs Strength skill. If the test only involves one character trying to knock down a door for example, there will simply be a difficulty level (ie 30) to test against."

Q: In a few words - what is the announced ”advanced combat system” in the game all about?

A: Combat takes place over several rounds starting with some distance between two groups of combatants. If all combatants are content with shooting there will only be ranged combat but if some prefer close combat they will close the distance over a few rounds possibly while being fired at. The rest of the combat rounds will be fought in close combat. The fight ends when one side decides to flee because they have taken too much damage or they are simply killed. The players will be able to equip their characters from a huge range of weapons before combat, weapons that can be customized to do more damage, have better range or more ammunition.
